Motivation For The Maker: Sabine Heinlein (@animalquilter)

You know those artists that every time you see their new work on Instagram, one little heart-tap in response just doesn't seem like an adequate display of admiration? One of those artists for me is Sabine Heinlein (aka @animalquilter).

What keeps her motivated to create all of this incredible applique?

Like artists across the ages and around the world, I find animals an endless source of inspiration and amusement. My animal quilts allow me to share my sense of wonder.

My own menagerie—three cats, two rabbits and the flocks of wild birds that eat seeds on my windowsill—keep me entertained and, like quilts, provide for a good "padding" of love and loveliness. Connecting old pieces of fabric and putting one stitch in front of the other is the most meditative and rewarding activity I can think of.

Read her own reflection on this piece on her blog.

You can find more of her work on Instagram. (Check out her Ten Plagues quilt!)
