THE NEW APOCALYPSE
THE NEW APOCALYPSE is an ongoing body of work which radically reimagines a future where humanity manages to side-step Armageddon. I’m fascinated by the human tendency towards fatalistic stories of collapse and decay. Why isn’t humanity telling itself stories of progress and enlightenment instead?
With THE NEW APOCALYPSE, I want to explore how we can talk ourselves down from this collective ledge of catastrophe, and then once in this new future: how do we establish new forms of communicating with one another? How do we inhabit our spaces in new ways? How do we make amends to the vast web of life we’ve nearly rended?
This collection includes large wall pieces inspired by the church banners of my youth, proclaiming messages of resilience and agency; and hand-held textiles with embroidered affirmations made to be passed from person to person, operating like subversive evangelical tracts.
