ORNAMENTS 2022

I loved making these little ornaments this year. I’ve been calling them Windowpanes because it feels like a glimpse into what I’ve been working on this year. The ornaments are made from scraps from significant projects in 2022, all held down by tulle, which is an idea I first admired in the work of Pat Kroth who had a show I saw at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts this summer. I hope you enjoy your new ornament, and know that you are well loved.

Wishing you a happy, happy 2023,

XOZ

The pink sheer fabric that holds all the scraps down came from the ballet tutu I found October 29 walking around my neighborhood.

Any green scraps you see came from this quilt I made for Thredup, an online platform that sells secondhand clothing. They commissioned me to make them a quilt in the fall. They wanted a quilt that was “obviously garment” so I made them what you see here. I think I nailed it!

The red and white fabric that you see came from one of my faaaavorite saris that I bought on eBay in 2018. I’ve used it in a ton of projects… it was over 5 yards of fabric after all.

The black scraps of thread came from this quilt on family history, and I envision it being a headliner quilt in a collection one day. Like Nina Simone said once, “this is a show tune, but the show hasn’t been written for it yet.” More quilts in this series to come in 2023.
